On-Farm Diesel Storage and Dispensing Setup for a WA Agricultural Operation
Supplying and Commissioning a Complete Fuel Storage Solution for a Working Farm
Wheatbelt, Western Australia
Reliable access to diesel is as important to a working farm as water. For one Wheatbelt agricultural operation, the existing fuel setup had become a bottleneck during busy seeding and harvest periods, with an undersized tank and an unreliable pump creating delays at exactly the wrong time. Handy Fuel WA was engaged to assess the existing setup and supply and commission a complete on-farm diesel storage and dispensing solution that could handle the demands of a full working season.
We've saved time and money since the new setup went in. No more waiting on deliveries in the middle of harvest and we actually know how much fuel we're using now. Handy Fuel WA understood exactly what a working farm needs.
Handy Fuel WA designs and installs on-farm diesel storage and dispensing solutions for agricultural operations across Western Australia. From self-bunded tank supply and pump installation through to access control and flow metering, we build setups that are practical, compliant, and built to handle the demands of a working season. Agricultural Fuel Solutions
The property ran a mix of tractors, headers, chaser bins, and support vehicles across several thousand hectares. During peak periods, diesel consumption was significant, and the client was spending considerable time and money arranging frequent deliveries to top up an undersized storage tank. The existing dispensing setup was a basic hand pump that was slow, inaccurate, and not fit for the volume of fuel being drawn on a daily basis.
Handy Fuel WA carried out an on-site assessment to understand the operation's fuel requirements, taking into account peak daily consumption during seeding and harvest, the number and type of vehicles being refuelled, the site layout, and the client's preference for minimising delivery frequency.
Based on the assessment, Handy Fuel WA recommended and supplied a self-bunded diesel storage tank sized to meet the property's seasonal requirements, reducing the number of deliveries needed and giving the operation a comfortable buffer during critical periods. Self-bunded tanks are well suited to agricultural environments as they incorporate secondary containment within the tank itself, meeting environmental compliance requirements without the need to construct a separate bunded compound.
A high-flow electric diesel pump was installed and integrated with a digital flow meter to ensure accurate dispensing records. A retractable hose reel was fitted to keep the dispensing area tidy and protect the hose from the dust, heat, and UV conditions common in WA's agricultural regions. The complete setup was mounted on a stable concrete pad and positioned to allow straightforward access for the property's largest vehicles.
Handy Fuel WA also installed a basic access control system so that fuel draws could be recorded by vehicle or operator, giving the farm manager visibility over fuel usage across the operation without needing a full electronic management system.
The completed installation was commissioned and tested before the client's next delivery, and Handy Fuel WA provided documentation covering the system components, maintenance requirements, and recommended service intervals.
